the spider incident

OK, this morning I dropped off Jenna at work, with the kids in their seats and one box and several bags of Goodwill stuff behind them. Their bikes were in the back too, I’ll get to that later. Well, I saw a spider dangling on its web from the box and stupid me (you should never tell little girls that there’s a spider behind them) told them that there’s a spider behind them. Savvy initiates the bloody ear piercing scream ritual with her younger sister, Sari quickly joining in a half second later. I really think that Sari isn’t as scared, but the screaming sets off a chain reaction. After all Sari loves catching bugs with me and putting them in her bug catcher cage. I tried to calm them down and told them I would pull into this gas station parking lot and take care of the spider. The spider dropped down to who-knows-where and I decided to pretend vanquish the spider by squishing my fingers onto the car’s carpet.
They were happy.
Soon after we were at one of the great nature lovers parks in town and I started training Savvy how to ride her bike without her training wheels. A few more sessions and she should be great at it.

don’t mind the cat fuzz

Was thinking while petting the cat as she was shedding hair, that I shouldn’t mind the cat fuzz that is left behind. I don’t like having cat fuzz around the house, but it just makes me think that that is minor compared to the joys that I take for granted. The laughter and fun and innocence of kids, their inquisitive minds, gazing upon my love’s beauty, losing myself in her beautiful eyes, walking into a room that has had the window open and breathing in the fresh air’s smells. Oh yes, this and more makes me happy.

pure nostalgia

I was 12 when Tron premiered in the theaters. I loved it, ate it up like a young dork should. The Tron arcade game’s music is what’s dominant in my memories of going to the arcade back then. Kind of warm and fuzzy, those memories are.

random acts of slurpiness

I was just at the 7/11 getting our Saturday excursion slurpies for me and the kids. I got to the front of the line and my rear pocket was devoid of wallet. I quickly said something like I’ll leave the slurpies here and be right back. And then a guy with his two kids in line blurted out “don’t worry about it, I’ll pay for it”. I was embarrassed but relieved. I’ll definitely pass it on.

Jimmy Page at the Olympics closing

I was impressed as a Led Zeppelin fan yet surprised to find out that Jimmy Page performed “Whole Lotta Love” at the closing ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics. Maybe Paul McCartney wanted too much $. Because one of the Beatles’ love songs would have seemed more appropriate.
