I am a bonafide MacHEAD for the last 15 years… maybe…
January 8, 2010 - 12:15 am
I say “maybe” because Apple computers have not been the only ones I’ve had since the early 90s, when I bought my first personal computer.
My first computer in 91 was a Windows 3.1 286SX, used it mainly for pre web BBing, AOLing, Compuserving and Prodigy-ing. And I used it to “try” out games from my employer Software ETC. (now is GameStop) at home on my win box and then bring them back to work to be reshrinkwrapped and sold as new.
Second computer in 95 (much better computer of course and the one I used to dive into the WWW for the first time) was my Power Macintosh 6200. I bought it from the now nonexistent Computer City at Jantzen Beach. The sales guy totally awed me with the experience of using the Mac OS 7.5 desktop for the first time… the concept of an alias file-an icon that points to another file somewhere else-blew my mind! Remember in 95 this was before windows had shortcuts, at least before my old one at home had them… I think Win95 introduced them.
My third computer, my first portable, was unfortunately a PC. In 98 I bought an AMD driven laptop for school. Check this out, this shows how backwards Walla Walla Community College was in the late 90s… I was taking the Multimedia/Web Design course, and their main vector and raster suite they used to teach design was Corel Draw and Paint, on PCs of course! I suffered the embarrassment because the education was basically free, compared to the expensive year I spent previously at Walla Walla University. At least THEY had it right, there was a Mac lab with Adobe, Macromedia and Quark Inc. products!
Later when I was the web dude at a small design studio, I got an Apple 12″ PowerBook in 2003. About the same time I acquired one of the first jellybean iMacs from that employer, for my kids to use.
That PowerBook kept me kicking on the net (it showed it’s age with streaming video… couldn’t quite keep up with it) until 2006.
After that I used my wife’s PC for a little while until she got her 17″ Powerbook in 2007. I shared that with her for about a year until she got me my current 13″ MacBook almost two years ago.
So, even though my ratio of Macs to PCs is almost double, I don’t really consider myself a MacHead. I still use the PC for Diablo 2, which kicks ass as far as online gaming goes: free and fun, unlike that other MMORPG that most play, well at least that one isn’t free… I think I’ve heard it’s fun.
And after 15 minutes into watching the CNN show MacHEADS, I am glad to not be a part of the “cult” that is described in that show. Those nerds are lame and don’t have a life. Digital belts and utili-kilts? PUH-lease!!!
Besides, I don’t even have an iPhone, so that is another reason I am not a… BUT I have a fake iPhone aka iPod Touch, which is the 3rd iPod I have owned… maybe I AM a MacHEAD… I just don’t want to be associated with those freaks. ^^’
(HELL, I didn’t think this blog was going to be this long and take over 45 min. to typedit it! It HAS ALSO been almost 2 months of no-blog-limbo-off-and-on-facebooking-and-lots-of-blog-reading… so this was a good one to start the new year with, I SUPPOHZ)

Ha, BBSing! I remember those days. Apparently we’re old timers now.

Yeah, Jenna goes back further with having several flavors of Apple II’s when she was young, and she was all over the BBSing and the other online services I mentioned.
